Red-necked Footman by David Green   Red-necked Footman distribution

The Red-necked Footman occurs locally in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight inhabiting broadleaved woodland and conifer plantations.  The larvae feed on lichens and green algae growing on oaks, birches, Larch and other trees. This and the other footman species have fared well in recent years due to improvements in air quality that have improved conditions for the lichens on which they feed.
