The True Lover’s Knot is associated with heathland, high moorland and gardens, but is occasionally found away from breeding sites.  The larvae feed on Heather and Bell Heather, possibly also Cross-leaved Heather.  This moth can be seen visiting flowers in bright sunshine but it also comes to light after dark.
